Not only have you been mentally and physically preparing for baby…but now it’s time to start designing a space for their arrival. Whether you’re a DIY-er or you’ll be hiring a Cincinnati Interior Designer, it’s important to start thinking about your vision for this special space. Have you been dreaming of a neutral and minimalistic design or a brightly colored nursery filled with woodland creatures? You may already have your Pinterest board perfectly curated for your inspiration or you may be having a hard time finding your style…
I’d love to introduce you to Kara McGuire! Kara is a wife, mother of three, and a Cincinnati Interior Designer/owner of Mysa Home Design. Mysa (MEE-sah) is a verb that translates to being content, cozy, and comfortable. The perfect way to describe Kara’s light, clean, and beautiful style. Kara serves Cincinnati families through interior, exterior, and organizational design.
After photographing Kara’s in-home newborn session, I knew I wanted to not only have her redesign my entire home, but give her advice to mothers who are designing their own nurseries. So sit back with a cup of coffee or your favorite mocktail and hear how a Cincinnati Interior Designer gained inspiration for her own nursery and the words of wisdom she has for you!
We didn’t know whether Milo was going to be a boy or a girl so I knew I had to design something gender neutral. I am very into rusts and teals at the moment so I also knew I wanted to style around those colors. From there my inspiration came from my love for mid-century modern and minimalistic design. I love a room to be bright and airy, but since this was a nursery I wanted it to also feel serene and playful.
First, I would tell them to imagine bringing their new baby home to their dream nursery. What do they picture as the statement piece of the room? Is it a crib, a pattern, colors, a dresser, linens, a rocking chair? Once they have that in mind, start shopping for it. After they’ve found the design focal point, start to piece together the room around what’s been chosen. But most importantly, I would tell them to do what makes them happy instead of focusing on what’s trendy. There will be so many memories created in that space!
I splurged on the rug for this space. I used to be hesitant about putting a rug in an already carpeted room, but once I started doing it…I couldn’t stop! So I knew I wanted the rug to be my statement piece. It adds so much character to the space as opposed to the plain carpet. I’m so glad I chose to go for it!
I love the affordability and variety at Target, but love the style and quality at West Elm and Crate & Barrel. And I love the filter options on Wayfair so you can jump to exactly what you need.
I would suggest going through their photos on Instagram, Facebook, or on their blog. If you connect with their style and their design choices, then reach out! Extra points if they can create a design board or virtual room for you in the process. This helps you visualize the space as a whole to ensure sure you’ll love the room before starting to purchase items.
