You’ve finally announced to your family and friends, “I’M PREGNANT!” In the midst of the baby shower planning and nursery designing, it’s also time to start thinking about booking your maternity session. As a Cincinnati maternity photographer, I’m here to help!

If you read my previous blog post When to Book a Newborn Photos, you remember that was around the end of the first trimester and start of your second trimester. It’s about the same for maternity sessions too! But as always, the earlier the better. So I recommend in your first trimester! When do I schedule a maternity session?

I typically say between 25 and 34 weeks. But of course, each mama and baby belly is unique! We want to capture that gorgeous round bump, but we don’t want to wait too long. Toward the end of your pregnancy, you could start to lose a little bit of energy and may not feel your very best. If you’re having multiples, we’ll schedule on the earlier side!

Should I even book maternity photos?

Yes! Yes! Yes! Trust me, every day of pregnancy isn’t glamorous. But my goal is to capture beautiful images that remind you of how this journey through motherhood felt. This is such a magical time that goes by in a flash, so enjoy that sweet baby bump and let’s make beautiful art!

What will this experience look like?

My last tip, as in all of my guides, is to just relax and have fun! This day is all for you. As EGP mamas know, you’ll be pampered from start to finish. Starting with my closet full of designer dresses, you’ll browse through my catalog (with your feet up) and choose which ones you’d like to wear for your session. Forget the days of endlessly shopping for a dress, that may or may not photograph well. We’ve all been there! You end up with multiple returns and a dress you’ll never wear again. Next, you’ll be pampered with professional hair and makeup on the day of your session. And finally, when your images are ready, I’ll design custom albums, prints, and gallery walls for you to enjoy in your home.
